At the beginning of my investment journey, I was reading a lot of books about value investing (I still do). Some were great, a few were bad and a lot of them were just too advanced for me at the time. What I needed was a short list of easy-to-read books from which I could learn the basics.
So without further delay, here are six books that you should be reading if you’re new to investing:
Warren Buffett Accounting Book – Definitely one of the best books on reading financial statements for the common investor.
Rich Dad, Poor Dad – The book’s subtitle is “What The Rich Teach Their Kids About Money—That The Poor And Middle Class Do Not!“. Although Robert isn’t a value investor, the teachings on this book are universal. Don’t miss it!
The Dhandho Investor – You can get high returns without taking higher risks. With really cool true stories, Mohnish gives us examples of ultra low-risk investments that ended up delivering huge returns.
One up on Wall Street – Peter Lynch is one of the best (if not the best) fund managers ever. He tells us to stop listening to the financial experts and that every single one of us can be as good – if not better – than any expert out there. Lynch is known for discovering several multibaggers just by going to the supermarket or paying attention to what his wife was buying.
The New Buffettology – This is one of the books I enjoyed the most when I was starting my investment career because it offered me simple and valuable metrics that I could use to choose the best investments.
The little book that builds wealth – Pat talks about the 4 different kinds of moats a business can have and how to find great investments.
